While Christy Keeney was here I asked him about imprinting textures and found objects on his work.... He said he would only ever do it for tops etc below the neck surfaces of jumpers or lace. Since I haven't tried many of his techniques on forming the head I decided I would try out textures on the body. Netting seemed to work ok.... I must check with Kieran or Elaine if what I have done will come through after the biscuit firing!!

Me-Giant Fat Angry Baby! ONLY 4/5 Months Old! WTF! So my Mother recalls! |
So here is my up to date photo of my progress on the Giant Head Project..... I chose a picture of me as a GIANT FAT BABY as my inspiration... since we have to tie this project in with our narrative.... mine based on Greed (One of the Seven Deadly Sins).... I thought to myself when I was a baby was I greedy??.... want food CRRRRRYYYYYY 'til mom feeds me.... tired? CRRRRYYYYY 'til mom tucks me away...... CRRRRRYYYYYY CRRRRRYYYYYY CRRRRRRYYYYY for no reason.... so basically we were kept entertained, fed, changed, safe etc etc with no consideration.... therefore Greedy?? Okay, NOT INTENTIONALLY but......... c'mon when you forget the blatantly obvious fact that we were incapable of doing things ourselves, the acts are greedy and selfish..... Anyway that's why I chose to do a Baby Head..... :)

Better late then never eh?
I haven't gotten round to uploading these pics to show you what I have actually been doing the past 2 and a bit weeks .....
Week 1: Pot Vessel Object....... basically group Problem solving exercise... we went down the wrong route at the start researching history etc when the question was discuss these three words with regard to 2012 CERAMICS. But after a vast amount of learning we narrowed it down to a contemporary artist each and roughly what we thought the meaning of the project and question was.
Voice was a bit shaky but meh.... think I survived it!
My Contemporary Artist was VHILS... a bit out there but he did use clay as a medium for his portraits... just on derelict houses :/
Week 2: Basically researching what we want to focus our Narrative project on. Guidelines were a lyric, quote, whisper, joke... "anything that you can put into inverted commas". Mine has travelled quite a bit from the beginning.... Here's the break down of where I started and where I am now.....
<PICTURE TO BE UPLOADED>
Week 3: Visiting Artist Christy Keeney came to help us with our HEAD PROJECT......Yay we're building with clay!!! We had a intro and talk with him Monday morning, during which he showed us slides of his own work past and present, also had a little question and answer session. After break he gave us a demo of how he actually creates his slightly flat faced figure heads, using moulds and drawing on the clay like a canvas! Tuesday we began working on our own.... I'll post my inspiration for mine and all that jazz later! :)

Ceramic Heads for the Senses!
We've been working on our Giant Ceramic Heads the past two days and our visiting artist Christy Keeney left today, after giving us brilliant advice and lots to think about! He mentioned looking at daily things not just with your eyes but with your hands, touching and feeling things paint a different picture in your mind.... and how does that translate to clay....? Definitely something to keep in mind! Found this art exhib held last year all about senses. Bringing Francis Bacon's paintings to life and allowing visually impaired members of the public actually TOUCH and FEEL artwork on display. This video shows quick glance at how the exhibition was set up :)

Christy Keeney
Ceramic Sculpter originally from Donegal, returened back to Ireland recently. He says in his Biography on his website ( http://christykeeney.co.uk/ ) " I visited a retrospective exhibition of Picasso, at the Tate gallery, in the early 80s when I was at college, and many of my influences came from seeing that work. Especially a collection of small card-board cutout and folded, figurative sculptures. These simple two dimensional pieces opened a world of possibilities on how I would approach my own work. "

After a bit of research trying to find pictures online of these figurative card sculptures I only came accross the above, which was the 2d and 3d design development if you like of his famous stringed guitars.

Time and Patience....
were seriously needed for this video. Final piece is amazing. Looking into Narrative art at the moment for my second weekof Ceramics. I think this will be very interesting as it is up to the individual the way they want to express the brief. Well found this video on Juxtapoz.com UNREAL website especially for contemporary and quirky things :)

Contemporary Ceramic Art
Atreet art does not often fall under the title of ceramics..... but this artist Vhils uses the art of Sgraffito in a more modern urban street art way. He uses derelict houses and building for demolition to create his art. Usually portraits.
